Frequently Asked Questions

When is Narasimha Jayanti 2026?
Narasimha Jayanti falls on the Chaturdashi (14th day) of the bright fortnight of Vaishakha, usually in May. It is observed by fasting through the day and worshipping Lord Narasimha at sunset — the twilight hour at which he is said to have appeared.
Who is Lord Narasimha?
Narasimha is the fourth avatar of Vishnu — half man, half lion. He appeared at twilight, in a doorway, to slay the demon Hiranyakashipu (who had a boon making him nearly unkillable) and to protect his young devotee Prahlada. He embodies God's protection of the devotee against all odds.
Which mantra to chant on Narasimha Jayanti?
Chant "Om Namo Bhagavate Narasimhaya", recite the Lakshmi Narasimha Karavalamba Stotram and the Narasimha "Ugram Viram Maha-Vishnum" dhyana shloka, and read the Vishnu Sahasranama. Narasimha mantras are especially chanted for protection from enemies, fear and negative forces.
