Frequently Asked Questions

When is Nag Panchami 2026?
Nag Panchami is observed on the fifth day (Panchami) of Shravana Shukla Paksha, in July–August, during the holy month of Shravan.
Which mantra to chant on Nag Panchami?
Chant the Naga mantra "Om Nagdevtaya Namah" and the Naga Gayatri, and "Om Namah Shivaya", since serpents adorn Lord Shiva. Recite the Shiv Chalisa and the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra for protection from snake-fear and Kaal Sarp Dosha.
How is Nag Panchami celebrated?
Devotees worship images or idols of serpents (or a snake-hole or Shivling) with milk, water, flowers, haldi-kumkum and durva, and offer milk and lotus to the Nagas. Many visit Shiva or Naga temples. It is considered especially important for those with Kaal Sarp Dosha in their horoscope.
How does Nag Panchami help with Kaal Sarp Dosha?
Kaal Sarp Dosha is a planetary affliction involving Rahu and Ketu (the shadow serpents). Worshipping the Nagas on Nag Panchami, offering milk, chanting "Om Namah Shivaya" and the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, and performing the Naga puja or a Kaal Sarp Dosha nivaran at a temple are the traditional remedies.
