छठ पूजा मंत्र — सूर्य और छठी मैया की उपासना

Chhath Puja (छठ पूजा) is the great festival of Surya (the Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya, celebrated mainly in Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern UP and Nepal. Over four days, devotees fast (often without water), stand in water, and offer arghya (water) to the setting and rising Sun. These are the mantras and prayers for Chhath Puja.

Surya Mantra — Salutation to the Sun

Gayatri Mantra — Hymn to Savitr (the Sun)

When is Chhath Puja 2026?
Chhath Puja in 2026 falls in October–November, six days after Diwali, on the Shashthi (sixth day) of Kartik Shukla Paksha. The four days are Nahay Khay, Kharna, Sandhya Arghya (evening offering to the setting Sun) and Usha Arghya (morning offering to the rising Sun).
Which mantra to chant during Chhath Puja?
While offering arghya, chant the Surya Mantra "Om Suryaya Namah" and "Om Hraam Hreem Hraum Sah Suryaya Namah", and the Gayatri Mantra. Recite the Aditya Hridaya Stotra and Surya Chalisa, and sing the Surya Aarti. Chhathi Maiya is worshipped alongside the Sun.
How is arghya offered during Chhath Puja?
Stand in a river or water body at sunset (Sandhya Arghya) and sunrise (Usha Arghya). Hold a soop (winnowing tray) with thekua, fruits, sugarcane and a lit lamp, and pour water toward the Sun while chanting the Surya Mantra. The fast is broken after the morning arghya to the rising Sun.
