Puja Samagri (Materials Required)

Vishnu / Narayana idol, photo or Shaligram
Yellow cloth for the altar

Step-by-Step Puja Vidhi

Purification

Bathe and wear clean (yellow) clothes. Clean the altar, sprinkle Ganga Jal, and face East or North.

Invoke Ganesha

Begin with "Om Gam Ganapataye Namah" to clear obstacles.

Vishnu Sthapana

Place the Vishnu idol or Shaligram on a yellow cloth. Apply chandan tilak and offer a garland of yellow flowers or lotus.

Panchamrit Abhishek

Bathe the idol/Shaligram with Panchamrit, then with water, and dry gently. Blow the conch and ring the bell.

Tulsi & Shringar

Offer fresh clothes, chandan and a tulsi leaf — Vishnu is especially pleased by Tulsi. Offer yellow flowers at his feet.

Naivedya (Bhog)

Offer kheer, besan ladoo, banana and fruits — with a tulsi leaf on each. On Thursday, offer chana dal and jaggery; on Ekadashi, sattvic, grain-free bhog.

Chant "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" or "Om Namo Narayanaya" 108 times. Recite the Vishnu Sahasranama (especially on Thursday) and the Vishnu Chalisa.

Perform the Aarti "Om Jai Jagdish Hare" with camphor, rotating the lamp clockwise, then offer the conch-water and distribute prasad.
