Step-by-Step Puja Vidhi
Purification & Sankalp
On Friday, bathe early and wear clean clothes. Clean the altar, sprinkle Ganga Jal, and take a sankalp to keep the vrat for 16 Fridays.
Kalash & Mata Sthapana
Place a Kalash of water and the Santoshi Mata idol on a red/yellow cloth. Apply kumkum tilak and offer a garland of red flowers.
Offer Gur-Chana
Offer the essential prasad of gur (jaggery) and roasted chana (gram) — Santoshi Mata's most beloved offering — along with a banana and fruits.
Light the Lamp & Katha
Light a ghee diya and incense. Read or listen to the Santoshi Mata Vrat Katha — this is the heart of the Friday vrat.
Mantra & Aarti
Chant "Om Shri Santoshi Mata Namah" and recite the Santoshi Mata Chalisa. Perform the Santoshi Mata Aarti "Jai Santoshi Mata" with the lamp.
Prarthana & Prasad
Pray for contentment and the fulfilment of your wish. Distribute the gur-chana prasad. Important: do not eat or serve anything sour (khatta) on the vrat day.
Udyapan
After completing 16 Fridays, perform the Udyapan — a concluding puja with a feast for eight boys, offering them a meal (without sour food) and gifts.

Important Tips
Gur (jaggery) and chana (gram) are the essential prasad — never skip them in Santoshi Mata puja.
Strictly avoid anything sour (khatta) — tamarind, lemon, pickle — on the vrat day, both for the devotee and the household.
Friday (Shukravar) is the Mother's day — keep the 16-Friday vrat with sincerity and a content heart.
Conclude with the Udyapan after 16 Fridays, feeding eight young boys without any sour dish.
