Vaikuntha Ekadashi Mantras — Vishnu Prayers

Vaikuntha Ekadashi (वैकुंठ एकादशी) — also called Mukkoti Ekadashi — is the holiest Ekadashi of the year, when the "Gate of Vaikuntha" (Vaikuntha Dwaram) is believed to open and devotees who fast and stay awake worshipping Vishnu are granted liberation. It falls in the bright fortnight of Margashirsha/Pausha (Dec–Jan). These are the Vishnu mantras and prayers to recite through the Ekadashi fast and night vigil.

Vishnu Sahasranama — The 1000 Names

Reciting the thousand names of Vishnu is the supreme observance of Vaikuntha Ekadashi — it is said to free the devotee from all sins and sorrow and lead to Vaikuntha.

Vishnu Chalisa

The forty-verse hymn to Lord Vishnu, recited during the Ekadashi fast to invoke the preserver's grace and protection.

A melodious bhajan of the names of Vishnu-Krishna — perfect for the night vigil (jagran) of Vaikuntha Ekadashi.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Vaikuntha Ekadashi 2026?
Vaikuntha Ekadashi falls on the Shukla Paksha Ekadashi (11th day of the bright fortnight) of the month of Margashirsha/Pausha, usually in December or January. It is observed with great fervour at Tirupati, Srirangam and Vishnu temples across South India.
What is special about Vaikuntha Ekadashi?
It is believed that on this day the Vaikuntha Dwaram (Gate of Vaikuntha, Vishnu's abode) opens. Devotees who fast, keep a night vigil and worship Vishnu — and those who pass through the temple's northern "Paramapada Vasal" gate — are said to attain liberation (moksha).
Which mantra to chant on Vaikuntha Ekadashi?
Recite the Vishnu Sahasranama, chant "Om Namo Narayanaya" and "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya", read the Vishnu Chalisa, sing Achyutam Keshavam through the night, and perform the "Om Jai Jagdish Hare" aarti. The Narayana Suktam is the Vedic prayer for the day.
