Hartalika Teej Mantras & Vrat — Parvati-Shiva Worship
Hartalika Teej (हरतालिका तीज) is a fast kept mainly by women in honour of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva, on the third day (Tritiya) of Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha. It commemorates Parvati's intense penance to win Shiva as her husband. Married women keep the nirjala (waterless) fast for marital bliss and their husband's long life; unmarried girls keep it for a good husband. These are the mantras for Hartalika Teej.
Om Namah Shivaya — The Shiva Mantra
Chant "Om Namah Shivaya" 108 times on Hartalika Teej, the mantra of the Lord whom Parvati won through this very penance.
Shiv Chalisa — Forty Verses of Shiva
Recite the Shiv Chalisa during the Hartalika Teej puja for Lord Shiva's blessings of a devoted, harmonious married life.
Parvati-Gauri Worship
Hartalika Teej centres on Goddess Parvati (Gauri). Recite the Durga Chalisa and worship Gauri, made of sand or clay, for akhand saubhagya (unbroken marital fortune).
Shiva Manasa Puja & Rudrashtakam
Offer the mental worship of Shiva (Shiva Manasa Puja) and recite the Rudrashtakam, dwelling on the divine couple Shiva-Parvati.
