Govardhan Puja (Annakut) Mantras — Krishna & Govardhan Hill

Govardhan Puja (गोवर्धन पूजा), or Annakut, is celebrated the day after Diwali to honour Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan hill on his little finger to shelter Vrindavan from Indra's storm. Devotees build a small Govardhan from cow dung or food, and offer Annakut — a "mountain of food" — to Krishna. These are the mantras for Govardhan Puja.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Govardhan Puja 2026?
Govardhan Puja is celebrated on the first day (Pratipada) of Kartik Shukla Paksha, the day after Diwali (in October–November). In some years it coincides with or follows the Diwali Padwa.
How to do Govardhan Puja at home?
Make a small Govardhan hill from cow dung (or shape one from food/sweets) and decorate it with flowers and a figure of Krishna. Offer the Annakut — a variety of cooked dishes and sweets arranged like a mountain — chant "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya", sing the Krishna Aarti, and do parikrama (circumambulation) of the Govardhan.
What is Annakut?
Annakut means "mountain of food". On Govardhan Puja, devotees cook 56 (chhappan bhog) or more varieties of food and sweets and arrange them as a mountain offered to Krishna, in gratitude for his lifting Govardhan to feed and shelter Vrindavan. The prasad is then shared by all.
