भगवतीवाक्य (फलश्रुति)
Bhagavatī Vākya (Phalaśruti)
The Devi's Words — Fruits of the Recitation · 39 verses
▶ Listen to recitationChapter Summary
The Goddess herself proclaims the fruits (phalashruti) of her Mahatmya. To whoever recites or hears it with devotion — especially on the eighth, ninth and fourteenth lunar days and at the great autumn worship (Navratri) — she promises freedom from every calamity, from poverty and loss, and from all fear of enemies, robbers, kings, weapons, fire and flood. The recitation quells pestilence and portents, calms cruel planetary afflictions and bad dreams, soothes children troubled by spirits, reconciles enemies, and drives off rakshasas, bhutas and pishachas; a single recitation equals a whole year's worship. Remembering her exploits delivers one from fire, robbers, prison, shipwreck and the battlefield. Then Chandika vanishes; the gods regain their stations, the surviving demons flee to the nether world, and the sage reveals her as the eternal one — Mahakali, creation and dissolution, Lakshmi in prosperity and Alakshmi in ruin — who, worshipped, grants wealth, children and an auspicious destiny.
