Tirupati Balaji (Venkateswara) Puja Vidhi

तिरुपति बालाजी पूजा विधि

Deity: Lord Venkateswara (Tirupati Balaji)Best Day: Saturday, Ekadashi, Thursday & Purnima

Lord Venkateswara — Tirupati Balaji — is the form of Lord Vishnu enshrined at Tirumala, the most visited temple in the world. Known as the Kali-yuga deity who fulfils every sincere prayer, he is worshipped with the simple, joyful chant of "Govinda! Govinda!". This is the step-by-step Tirupati Balaji puja vidhi for the home altar.

Puja Samagri (Materials Required)

Venkateswara / Balaji photo or idol
Tulsi leaves and a tulsi garland (dear to Vishnu)
Yellow cloth, yellow/saffron flowers
Chandan (sandalwood), kumkum and akshata
Ghee lamp (deepa) and incense
Camphor for harati (aarti)
Naivedya — jaggery, fruit, sweet pongal or laddu
Panchamrit (milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar)
Betel leaves, betel nut and a coconut
Gangajal / clean water in a kalash

Step-by-Step Puja Vidhi

1

Snan & Shuddhi

Bathe and wear clean clothes. Clean the altar, sprinkle water for purification, and sit facing East or North.

2

Sthapana

Place the Venkateswara idol/photo on a yellow cloth. Light the ghee lamp and incense. Keep tulsi leaves ready for the offering.

3

Dhyana (Meditation)

Close your eyes and meditate on Balaji standing on Tirumala, hand pointing to his feet — the refuge of all. Chant "Om Namo Venkatesaya" three times.

4

Abhishekam (optional)

If using a metal idol, bathe it with Panchamrit and then clean water while chanting, then dry and reposition it.

5

Shodashopachara (Offerings)

Apply chandan and kumkum, offer tulsi leaves and yellow flowers, then betel, coconut and the naivedya (sweet pongal, jaggery or laddu).

6

Govinda Naama & Path

Chant "Govinda! Govinda!" and "Om Namo Venkatesaya" 108 times on a tulsi mala. Recite the Vishnu Sahasranama or Vishnu Chalisa; listening to the Venkatesa Suprabhatam at dawn is the classic practice.

7

Harati (Aarti)

Light camphor and perform the aarti — "Om Jai Jagdish Hare" — circling the flame clockwise. Show the flame to the Lord and then to yourself.

8

Prarthana & Prasad

Pray for your wishes with surrender (Balaji is the Lord of Kali-yuga who clears debts and grants boons). Distribute the prasad; offering to the Hundi/charity is part of the tradition.
