Puja Samagri (Materials Required)
Step-by-Step Puja Vidhi
Wake before sunrise & bathe
Surya puja is done at sunrise. Wake during Brahma Muhurta, bathe, and wear clean clothes. Face East, toward the rising Sun.
Fill the Arghya vessel
Fill a copper lota with clean water and add red flowers, a little roli (red powder) and akshata (rice). Copper and red are sacred to Surya.
Offer Arghya to the Sun
Stand facing the rising Sun, raise the lota with both hands to forehead height, and pour the water in a thin stream so the sunlight passes through it. Look at the Sun through the falling water.
Chant the Surya Mantra
While offering Arghya, chant "Om Suryaya Namah", "Om Hraam Hreem Hraum Sah Suryaya Namah", and the Gayatri Mantra (which is addressed to Savitr, the Sun).
Surya Namaskar
Perform Surya Namaskar (sun salutations), chanting the twelve names of the Sun — "Om Mitraya Namah", "Om Ravaye Namah" … — one with each round.
Path & Stotra
Recite the Aditya Hridaya Stotra (the hymn by which Rama won), the Surya Chalisa, and sing the Surya Aarti.
Offerings & Prarthana
Offer red flowers, jaggery, wheat and fruits. Light a diya and incense. Pray to Surya for health, vitality, confidence and success, and donate wheat and jaggery.

Important Tips
Offer Arghya within the first hour after sunrise, while you can still look at the Sun comfortably through the water.
Use a copper vessel and add red flowers and roli — copper and red are Surya's sacred metal and colour.
Sunday (Ravivar) is Surya's day — many keep a Sunday fast, eating one meal without salt, for health and skin.
Surya is the only deity visible to the eye — daily Arghya at sunrise brings health, confidence and clarity.
