Thursday (Guruvar) is Sai Baba's special day. Devotees light a lamp, read the Sai Satcharitra, recite the Sai Chalisa and perform the Sai Aarti on Thursdays, and many keep the nine-Thursday Sai vrat.
The simplest is "Om Sai Ram". A fuller japa is "Om Sai Namo Namah, Shri Sai Namo Namah, Jai Jai Sai Namo Namah, Sadguru Sai Namo Namah", chanted 108 times for peace and the fulfilment of sincere wishes.
Sai Baba taught "Shraddha and Saburi" — unshakeable faith and patient endurance — and "Sabka Malik Ek", that one God belongs to all religions. He emphasised charity (Dakshina), love and seeing the divine in every being.
