How to Chant वेंकटेश्वर सुप्रभातम्
Instructions
Recite at dawn after bathing, facing east before an image of Lord Venkateswara (Balaji). Begin with the awakening verse "Kausalya supraja Rama" and continue gently through the hymn, as though lovingly waking the Lord. Light a lamp and offer flowers; it is traditionally followed by the Venkateswara Stotram, Prapatti and Mangalasasanam. It may be sung or recited softly to start the day with the Lord’s remembrance.
Spiritual Significance
It is said that to begin the day by gently waking the Lord with the Suprabhatam is to be the first to receive His glance — that the grace of Venkateswara, who is awakened with love at dawn, follows the devotee through all the day.
Origin & History
Source: Sri Venkatesha Suprabhatam — sung daily at the Tirumala Tirupati temple
Author: Prativadi Bhayankara Annangaracharya (15th century)
The Venkateswara Suprabhatam was composed by Prativadi Bhayankara Annangaracharya, a great Vaishnava preceptor, to awaken Lord Venkateswara each morning at Tirumala. It opens by borrowing the very verse with which the sage Vishwamitra woke Sri Rama in the Ramayana, and has been sung as the first service of the day at the temple for centuries — the dawn-song on the lips of every Tirupati pilgrim.
