The Chandra Stotram is a cherished traditional hymn. A hymn of salutation to Chandra, the Moon god — the cool, nectar-rayed lord of the night and of the mind, worshipped for peace of mind, contentment and the soothing of lunar afflictions.

It is said that to recite the Chandra Stotram with a sincere and devoted heart is to draw near to the grace of the divine, which never forsakes those who lovingly call upon it.

નમશ્ચન્દ્રમસે ॥ નમશ્ચન્દ્રાય સોમાયેન્દવે કુમુદબન્ધવે । વિલોહિતાય શુભ્રાય શુક્લામ્બરધરાય ચ ॥ ૧॥ ત્વમેવ સર્વલોકાનામાપ્યાયનકરઃ સદા । ક્ષીરોદ્ભવાય દેવાય નમઃ શઙ્ગરશેખર ॥ ૨॥ યુગાનાં યુગકર્તા ત્વં નિશાનાથો નિશાકરઃ । સંવત્સરાણાં માસાનામૃતૂનાં તુ તથૈવ ચ ॥ ૩॥ ગ્રહાણાં ચ ત્વમેકોઽસિ સૌમ્યઃ સોમકરઃ પ્રભુઃ । ઓષધીપતયે તુભ્યં રોહિણીપતયે નમઃ ॥ ૪॥ ઇદં તુ પઠતે સ્તોત્રં પ્રાતરુત્થાય યો નરઃ । દિવા વા યદિ વા રાત્રૌ બદ્ધચિત્તો હિ યો નરઃ ॥ ૫॥ ન ભયં વિદ્યતે તસ્ય કાર્યસિદ્ધિર્ભવિષ્યતિ । અહોરાત્રકૃત્તં પાપં પઠનાદેવ નશ્યતિ ॥ ૬॥ દ્વિજરાજો મહાપુણ્યસ્તારાપતિર્વિશેષતઃ । ઓષધીનાં ચ યો રાજા સ સોમઃ પ્રીયતાં મમ ॥ ૭॥ ઇતિ ચન્દ્રસ્તોત્રં સમ્પૂર્ણમ્ ।
namaścandramase || namaścandrāya somāyendave kumudabandhave | vilohitāya śubhrāya śuklāmbaradharāya ca || 1|| tvameva sarvalokānāmāpyāyanakaraḥ sadā | kṣīrodbhavāya devāya namaḥ śaṅgaraśekhara || 2|| yugānāṃ yugakartā tvaṃ niśānātho niśākaraḥ | saṃvatsarāṇāṃ māsānāmṛtūnāṃ tu tathaiva ca || 3|| grahāṇāṃ ca tvameko'si saumyaḥ somakaraḥ prabhuḥ | oṣadhīpataye tubhyaṃ rohiṇīpataye namaḥ || 4|| idaṃ tu paṭhate stotraṃ prātarutthāya yo naraḥ | divā vā yadi vā rātrau baddhacitto hi yo naraḥ || 5|| na bhayaṃ vidyate tasya kāryasiddhirbhaviṣyati | ahorātrakṛttaṃ pāpaṃ paṭhanādeva naśyati || 6|| dvijarājo mahāpuṇyastārāpatirviśeṣataḥ | oṣadhīnāṃ ca yo rājā sa somaḥ prīyatāṃ mama || 7|| iti candrastotraṃ sampūrṇam |
અર્થ:चंद्रदेव — शीतल, अमृत-किरण रात्रि व मन के स्वामी — को नमन की स्तुति, जो मन की शांति, संतोष व चंद्र-दोष के शमन हेतु पूजी जाती है।

चन्द्र स्तोत्रम् જપ વિધિ
Bathe and sit facing north-west before an image of the deity. Light a lamp and recite the Chandra Stotram slowly and with devotion. It may be chanted daily, or especially on Mondays and during Purnima (full moon).
