Often combined with wearing the planet's gemstone
Pearl (Moti) — after astrological consultation, charity (daan) of the planet's items, and worship of its presiding deity
Brings peace of mind and steadiness during planetary troubles; recited with the Navagraha Mantra for the balance of all nine planets
How to Chant चंद्र मंत्र
Instructions
After a bath, sit facing east at dawn and chant "Om Som Somaya Namah" 108 times on a mala, ideally on Monday. As a full remedy for a weak or afflicted the Moon (Chandra), the mantra is traditionally completed as a japa of 11,000 repetitions over a fixed period, alongside the charity (daan) associated with the planet and, after consulting an astrologer, the wearing of its gemstone (Pearl (Moti)). Chant with faith and a calm, satvik discipline.
Origin & History
Source: The Vedic Navagraha mantra of the Moon (Chandra)
Author: Traditional (Vedic Jyotish)
In Vedic astrology (jyotish) the nine grahas shape the course of life, and each has its own mantra for blessing and remedy. "Om Som Somaya Namah" is the mantra of the Moon (Chandra), which governs the mind, emotions, peace, intuition, the mother and mental well-being. When the planet is weak or malefic in the horoscope, sages prescribed chanting its mantra — together with charity, fasting on its day (Monday), worship of its deity and its gemstone (Pearl (Moti)) — to strengthen its grace and soften its difficulties.
