Ekadashi Dates 2026, 2027 & 2028 — Ekadashi Vrat Calendar

Ekadashi — the eleventh tithi of each lunar fortnight — falls twice a month and is the most important fasting day (vrat) for devotees of Lord Vishnu. Observing the Ekadashi fast is said to cleanse body and mind, burn away sins and bring liberation. Each Ekadashi has its own name and story; below are all the dates, computed by the udaya-vyapini (sunrise) rule for New Delhi.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Ekadashi are there in a year?
There are normally 24 Ekadashi vrats in a year — two each lunar month (one in the Shukla Paksha and one in the Krishna Paksha). In a year with an extra month (Adhik Maas), there are 26.
How is the Ekadashi fast observed?
Devotees take a light meal the day before (Dashami), fast on Ekadashi — many take only water or fruit and avoid grains, rice and beans — spend the day in prayer and chanting of Vishnu, and break the fast (paran) the next morning during Dwadashi.
Why is Ekadashi dedicated to Lord Vishnu?
By the Puranas, the goddess Ekadashi arose from Lord Vishnu to defeat the demon Mura, and Vishnu granted that all who fast on this tithi would be freed from sin. Ekadashi is therefore the foremost vrat for Vishnu devotees, alongside Nirjala and Devshayani Ekadashi as the most powerful of the year.
