The Ardhanarishwara Stotram is traditionally ascribed to Adi Shankaracharya. A hymn to Ardhanarishwara — the form that is half Shiva and half Parvati — praising, line by line, the male half (Shiva) and the female half (Devi): His ash and Her sandal, His serpent and Her bangles, the union of Purusha and Prakriti in one body.

It is said that to recite the Ardhanarishwara Stotram with a sincere and devoted heart is to draw near to the grace of the Lord, who never forsakes those who lovingly call upon Him.

શ્રીગણેશાય નમઃ ॥ મન્દારમાલાલુલિતાલકાયૈ કપાલમાલાઙ્કિતશેખરાય । દિવ્યામ્બરાયૈ ચ દિગમ્બરાય નમઃ શિવાયૈ ચ નમઃ શિવાય ॥ ૧॥ એકઃ સ્તનસ્તુઙ્ગતરઃ પરસ્ય વાર્તામિવ પ્રષ્ટુમગાન્મુખાગ્રમ્ । યસ્યાઃ પ્રિયાર્ધસ્થિતિમુદ્વહન્ત્યાઃ સા પાતુ વઃ પર્વતરાજપુત્રી ॥ ૨॥ યસ્યોપવીતગુણ એવ ફણાવૃતૈક- વક્ષોરુહઃ કુચપટીયતિ વામભાગે । તસ્મૈ મમાસ્તુ તમસામવસાનસીમ્ને ચન્દ્રાર્ધમૌલિશિરસે ચ નમઃ શિવાય ॥ ૩॥ સ્વેદાર્દ્રવામકુચમણ્ડનપત્રભઙ્ગ- સંશોષિદક્ષિણકરાઙ્ગુલિભસ્મરેણુઃ । સ્ત્રીપુંનપુંસકપદવ્યતિલઙ્ઘિની વઃ શમ્ભોસ્તનુઃ સુખયતુ પ્રકૃતિશ્ચતુર્થી ॥ ૪॥ ઇત્યર્ધનારીશ્વરસ્તોત્રં સમ્પૂર્ણમ્ ।
śrīgaṇeśāya namaḥ || mandāramālālulitālakāyai kapālamālāṅkitaśekharāya | divyāmbarāyai ca digambarāya namaḥ śivāyai ca namaḥ śivāya || 1|| ekaḥ stanastuṅgataraḥ parasya vārtāmiva praṣṭumagānmukhāgram | yasyāḥ priyārdhasthitimudvahantyāḥ sā pātu vaḥ parvatarājaputrī || 2|| yasyopavītaguṇa eva phaṇāvṛtaika- vakṣoruhaḥ kucapaṭīyati vāmabhāge | tasmai mamāstu tamasāmavasānasīmne candrārdhamauliśirase ca namaḥ śivāya || 3|| svedārdravāmakucamaṇḍanapatrabhaṅga- saṃśoṣidakṣiṇakarāṅgulibhasmareṇuḥ | strīpuṃnapuṃsakapadavyatilaṅghinī vaḥ śambhostanuḥ sukhayatu prakṛtiścaturthī || 4|| ityardhanārīśvarastotraṃ sampūrṇam |

Bathe and sit facing east or north before an image of the deity. Light a lamp and recite the Ardhanarishwara Stotram slowly and with devotion. It may be chanted daily, or especially during Maha Shivaratri, Pradosh and the month of Shravan. Conclude with a prayer for grace and protection.
