She who is radiant as the jasmine, the moon and a garland of snow. She who is dressed in pure white garments. She whose hands are adorned with the veena. She who is seated on a white lotus. She who is always worshipped by Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and all the gods — may that Goddess Saraswati, who removes all forms of ignorance, protect me.

I bow to that supreme Goddess Sharada (Saraswati) — who is pure white, who is the essence of divine knowledge, who is the first and all-pervading, who holds the veena and the book, who bestows fearlessness, who removes the darkness of ignorance, who holds a crystal rosary in her hand, who is seated on a lotus — she who bestows intelligence and wisdom.
