Origin & History
Source: The prayer to Bala Gopal (Krishna) for a child
Author: Traditional (Puranic)
The Santan Gopal Mantra is the heartfelt prayer of couples who long for the blessing of a child. It calls upon Lord Krishna in his sweetest form — Bala Gopal, the divine child of Gokul — surrendering completely: "O son of Devaki, Lord of the universe, grant me a child; I take refuge in you." For ages, parents-to-be have chanted it before an image of the butter-loving child Krishna, with faith that the One who was himself the beloved child of Yashoda will bless their home with a healthy, virtuous child.
