Budh Mantra
बुध मंत्र
Origin & Story
The Vedic Navagraha mantra of Mercury (Budh) · Traditional (Vedic Jyotish)
In Vedic astrology (jyotish) the nine grahas shape the course of life, and each has its own mantra for blessing and remedy. "Om Bum Budhaya Namah" is the mantra of Mercury (Budh), which governs intellect, speech, communication, business, trade and analytical skill. When the planet is weak or malefic in the horoscope, sages prescribed chanting its mantra — together with charity, fasting on its day (Wednesday), worship of its deity and its gemstone (Emerald (Panna)) — to strengthen its grace and soften its difficulties.
The Mantra
ॐ बुं बुधाय नमः ॥
Om Bum Budhaya Namah.
Meaning:Om. Salutations to Mercury (Budh) — strengthening its grace and softening its malefic effects.

Benefits of Chanting Budh Mantra
The Vedic mantra of Mercury (Budh), chanted to strengthen the planet in the horoscope and to calm its malefic (ashubh) effects
Recited as a jyotish (astrology) remedy by those facing the difficult periods (mahadasha, antardasha or transit) of Mercury (Budh)
Mercury (Budh) governs intellect, speech, communication, business, trade and analytical skill; the mantra is chanted to bless and protect these areas of life
Most powerful on Wednesday, the day of the planet; traditionally completed as a full japa of 9,000 repetitions, or 108 times daily
Often combined with wearing the planet's gemstone — Emerald (Panna) — after astrological consultation, charity (daan) of the planet's items, and worship of its presiding deity
Brings peace of mind and steadiness during planetary troubles; recited with the Navagraha Mantra for the balance of all nine planets
How to Chant Budh Mantra
After a bath, sit facing east at dawn and chant "Om Bum Budhaya Namah" 108 times on a mala, ideally on Wednesday. As a full remedy for a weak or afflicted Mercury (Budh), the mantra is traditionally completed as a japa of 9,000 repetitions over a fixed period, alongside the charity (daan) associated with the planet and, after consulting an astrologer, the wearing of its gemstone (Emerald (Panna)). Chant with faith and a calm, satvik discipline.
