Bajrang Baan was composed by Goswami Tulsidas as a powerful prayer-arrow (baan) invoking Hanuman's fierce protective form. According to tradition, Tulsidas composed this prayer when he himself faced threats from evil forces and needed Hanuman's urgent intervention. The word 'Baan' means arrow, signifying that this prayer strikes like a divine arrow against all negative forces.

Meaning:As you leapt across the ocean, entering and expanding within the mouth of Surasa;
Age jaya Lankini roka, Marehu lata gai sura loka.
Meaning:Going onward, Lankini barred your way; you struck her with a kick and she departed to the celestial world.
Jaya Vibhishana ko sukha dinha, Sita nirakhi parama pada linha.
Meaning:You gave joy to Vibhishana; beholding Sita, you attained the supreme blessing.
Baga ujari sindhu maham bora, Ati atura yama katara tora.
Meaning:You laid waste the Ashoka garden and plunged Lanka into fear; swiftly you made even Yama tremble.
Akshaya Kumara mari samhara, Luma lapeti Lanka ko jara.
Meaning:You slew Akshaya Kumara; wrapping your tail in flames, you burned Lanka.
Laha samana Lanka jari gai, Jaya jaya dhuni sura pura maham bhai.
Meaning:Lanka blazed up like lac; cries of victory rang out in the city of the gods.
Aba vilamba kehi karana svami, Kripa karahu ura antaryami.
Meaning:Why the delay now, O Lord? Show your mercy, O inner-knower of every heart.
Jaya jaya Lakshmana prana ke data, Atura hoi dukha karahu nipata.
Meaning:Victory, O giver of life to Lakshmana; act swiftly and strike down our sorrow.
Jaya Giridhara jaya jaya sukha sagara, Sura samuha samaratha bhatanagara.

Meaning:Let it come true, having taken the oath of Hari (Rama); O messenger of Rama, seize and strike, rushing forth.

How to Chant Bajrang Baan
Bajrang Baan is an extremely powerful prayer and must be recited with full devotion and discipline. Light a mustard oil lamp before a Hanuman idol. Apply sindoor (vermilion) tilak. Sit facing south or east. Recite with intense faith and unwavering concentration. This is traditionally chanted during times of grave danger or when facing serious threats. It should be recited 7 times for maximum effect. Maintain brahmacharya (celibacy) on the day of recitation. Do not recite casually — this is considered a spiritual weapon.
